Active Futures programme in Scotland
This programme was launched in November 2004. The aim of the £5.5m programme in Scotland is to target young people between the ages of 17 and 24. The programme will prioritise applications that target young women, young disabled people or young black and minority ethnic (BME) communities. In addition priority will be given to projects serving rural communities or those disadvantaged by social and economic deprivation.
In Scotland the policy the Scottish Executive at Holyrood outlines direction. By 2006 the Executive will have allocated £17.5 million highlighting the importance of sport and active recreation for them. Policy direction in Scotland from Holyrood fits with the programme objectives of sportScotland and in Scotland the programme takes account of Sports 21 2003-2007: The National Strategy for Sport.
Sport 21 maintains a vision of Scotland as a country:
- where sport is more widely available to all;
- where sporting talent is recognised and nurtured; and
- achieving and sustaining world class performances in sport.
The strategy is working towards an overarching goal for 60% of Scots to take part in sport at least once a week by 2020.
