Practical monitoring tools

Here are some practical tools, which you can use as part of your self-evaluation activities. We will be adding to these over the coming months, so keep checking back.

If you have any practical monitoring tools that you think would be useful to other Community Sport Initiative projects, then please send details through to us.

Measuring change in regular participation

The easiest way to gather information on changes in physical activity is through surveys. You should set up a survey plan for your project. The notes below give ideas for a number of survey plans

Survey methods for projects (144KB)

Example surveys and survey guidance

Example Tracking survey (36KB)
Example General participant survey (53KB)
Example General participant survey (summary version) (31KB)
Example Community survey (40KB)
Data protection guidance note (29KB)
Choosing a sample guidance note (35KB)

You can use this sheet to track participants' regular participation in physical activity when they started using your project and at six months or later. Averaging the results will let you quickly see the change in activity your project is helping to stimulate.

Participation change spreadsheet (MS Excel format, 22KB)

Many projects have asked for a tool to draw together and analyse their KPI data on participants, Regular Participation, qualifications, coaches and volunteers. The Sports Council for Northern Ireland has developed such a database. This is available at the link below. Free to trial WinZip software to unzip the file is available at http://ww.winzip.com.

CSI database (Zipped file format, 791KB)

Database training guide (PDF format, 1.06MB)

Appendix 2: Data collection toolkit (PDF format, 132KB)

If you have any queries about the database, please contact Sabrina Allison on 0141 225 5514 or Patricia Horton on 0141 225 5510.
